Today we are thrilled to release our next Project Journey report for Fluentd. So far we have completed these for CNCF graduated projects including Kubernetes, Prometheus, Envoy, and containerd.
Fluentd is an open source data collector that unifies data collection and consumption for better use and understanding. Developed by Treasure Data in 2011, Fluentd was created to solve log/data collection and distribution needs at scale, offering a comprehensive and reliable service that can be implemented in conjunction with microservices and generic cloud monitoring tools.
This report attempts to objectively assess the state of the Fluentd project and how CNCF has impacted the progress and growth of Fluentd.
Some of the highlights of the report include:
- Code contributions – Fluentd has enjoyed a 237% expansion of individual contributors since the project joined CNCF. In the year before joining, Fluentd accumulated 2,214 contributors, while in the two years since it has added 7,452 contributors.
- Geographic expansion – Contributors to Fluentd have come from more than two dozen countries spread across five continents.
- Documentation – Since joining CNCF, the number of authors and companies committing documentation to Fluentd has grown by 199.6% and 149.5%, respectively. The number of documentation commits has increased by 226%.
Fluentd’s first commit was made on June 18, 2011. Between joining CNCF on November 9, 2016, and today, Fluentd has added:
- > 7.4K contributors
- > 52.2K code commits
- > 6 K pull requests
- > 43k contributions
- 1,046 contributing companies
Fluentd graduated one year ago, and the project is continuing to show impressive growth and broad use in production. We are excited to see continued success for Fluentd and invite you to read the report to learn more about the project’s growth.
