Today we are thrilled to release our next project journey report for Helm. So far we have completed these for CNCF graduated projects including Kubernetes, Prometheus, Envoy, containerd, and Fluentd.
Helm is an open source package manager for Kubernetes. It provides the ability to provide, share, and use software built for Kubernetes. The project currently has more than 30,000 GitHub stars and receives more than 2 million downloads a month from across the globe.
The project journey report attempts to objectively assess the state of the Helm project and how CNCF has cultivated the progress and growth of Helm.
Some of the highlights of the report include:
- During the three years before joining CNCF, Helm accumulated 3,642 contributors. In the two years since Helm added 11,514 contributors.
- The total number of companies contributing code has increased by 41% since Helm joined CNCF, from 930 to 1,314.
- Since Helm joined, the number of authors and companies committing documentation to Helm has grown by 189% and 93%, respectively.
Helm’s first commit was made on October 19, 2015. Between joining CNCF on June 1, 2018, and today, Helm has added:
- >13.5K contributors
- >9.4K code commits
- 14.5K pull requests
- >128K contributions
- 1,694 contributing companies
Just last month Helm reached graduated status. As Helm is one of our highest velocity projects, we look forward to seeing what the future holds and are happy to serve the Helm community!
