We are honored to announce that Cloud Native Computing Foundation’s KubeCon + CloudNativeCon scholarship program will now officially be named the Dan Kohn Diversity Scholarship.
Dan was a titan of the open source community with a brilliant mind and gentle soul. He was at the helm of CNCF for over five years and provided the guidance that led the project to become one of the most successful open source foundations of all time. Dan believed wholeheartedly that a diverse community made for a stronger and more vibrant and innovative community, and thanks to his leadership, CNCF has been able to offer over 1,518 scholarships to date.
These scholarships have helped countless underrepresented individuals become valued members of #teamcloudnative. In fact, Dan was one of the first proponents of these scholarships, so it’s only fitting that we honor his legacy by offering these scholarships in his name.
Applicants must be from traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalized groups in the technology and/or open source communities who are unable to attend without some financial assistance. Including, but not limited to persons identifying as: LGBTQIA+, women, persons of color, and/or persons with disabilities.
Dan’s presence is felt everyday across the CNCF and open source communities. We are proud to honor him and his family in this way and our hope is that these scholarship recipients will carry a piece of Dan’s legacy forward with them throughout their careers.
