As platform engineering and service catalogs have moved to the forefront of the conversation around cloud native developer experience, IT professionals need to understand the open source tools underpinning these trends. That’s why Cloud Native Computing Foundation and Linux Foundation Training & Certification are excited to announce the upcoming Certified Backstage Associate (CBA) certification.

Backstage is an open source framework for building developer portals. It provides a centralized software catalog, enabling product teams to ship high-quality code quickly through internal developer platforms (IDPs) without compromising autonomy.

“As the complexity of modern software development grows, developer experience is essential for organizations of all sizes,” said Chris Aniszczyk, CTO, of CNCF. “A Backstage certification improves skills across teams building on top of the most popular open source IDP, ensuring everyone is equipped to leverage the platform to boost individual productivity, enhance collaboration, and increase organizational efficiency.”

Backstage has been publicly adopted by more than 270 organizations and is in the top 5 CNCF projects in terms of velocity. A free introduction to Backstage course was launched in late 2022 for DevOps engineers and professionals interested in or working in developer productivity or developer experience teams.

The CBA certification is designed for engineers, developers, and other professionals who want to fine-tune their skills around IDPs and platform engineering. Those who successfully complete the certification exam will receive a certificate and a digital badge, demonstrating that they have the mindset and skills to work in and build Backstage tools that improve performance and drive innovation, benefiting their careers, teams, and organizations.
