The global cloud native community thrives on diversity and collaboration, bringing together contributors, users, and enthusiasts worldwide. As we continue to grow and expand, we are committed to creating an inclusive and effective environment for learning and sharing knowledge. To this end, we have carefully considered feedback regarding the use of languages other than English for presentations at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Japan and KubeCon + CloudNativeCon China.
After evaluating various perspectives, we believe the best approach is to align with the practices of other Linux Foundation events in Asia. This ensures consistency while respecting the unique needs of our diverse audience. Here is the updated language policy for presentations at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Japan and KubeCon + CloudNativeCon China:
- English will remain the preferred language for presentations to maintain accessibility for the widest audience possible.
- Presentations in the local event language (Japanese for KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Japan and Mandarin and Cantonese for KubeCon + CloudNativeCon China) will allow speakers to share their expertise effectively with local attendees.
- We will collect language preferences during the Call for Proposals (CFP) process. This will help us better plan the event.
- We recommend using English slides for non-English presentations to accommodate non-native attendees who may benefit from visual aids in English. However, speakers may use slides in their preferred language.
This policy will be implemented consistently for future KubeCon + CloudNativeCon events in Japan and China to create a balanced, inclusive, and productive environment for all participants.
We welcome your feedback and encourage you to share any questions or concerns regarding this update. Together, we can continue to foster an environment that celebrates our global community while addressing regional needs.
Thank you for your support as we refine and enhance the KubeCon + CloudNativeCon experience for everyone!
