When did you get started with Kubernetes and/or cloud-native? What was your first project?

I started working with Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies a few years ago when I began recognizing their potential to transform how applications are deployed and managed at scale. My first project involved containerizing a legacy application and deploying it with Kubernetes. It was a challenging yet exciting endeavor, as it required migrating from a traditional VM-based infrastructure to a cloud-native setup.

I began by using Docker to containerize the application and then moved on to Kubernetes to manage its deployment, scaling, and monitoring. I also integrated Prometheus and Grafana for observability. This project provided me with hands-on experience with Kubernetes and its ecosystem, sparking my deeper interest in cloud-native technologies.

That project became a turning point in my career, opening the door to further exploration of Kubernetes, microservices, and the broader cloud-native ecosystem. Since then, I’ve worked on various Kubernetes-related projects, from building operators with KubeBuilder to exploring observability and security in Kubernetes environments. It has been an exciting journey of continuous learning and growth!

What are the primary CNCF projects you work on or use today? What projects have you enjoyed the most in your career?

Kubernetes, Velero, DragonFly, K8gb, Cilium, Prometheus, Backstage

How have the certs or CNCF helped you in your career?

Being certified by the CNCF helped me gain recognition in the industry, establishing my credibility as a professional with proven expertise in Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies. This certification was particularly valuable in building relationships with clients, colleagues, and securing speaking opportunities at events like KubeDay 2024.

What are some other books/sites/courses you recommend for people who want to work with k8s?

Falcon’s Cloud Native Station Newsletter

What do you do in your free time?

Share time with my family, create content and make vlogs

What would you tell someone who is just starting their K8s certification journey? Any tips or tricks?

The official Kubernetes documentation is your best friend. For the exams, you’ll be able to access the docs during the test, so getting used to navigating them is essential. It’s not about memorizing everything but knowing where to find the information you need.

Today the Cloud native ecosystem is way more than Kubernetes. Do you plan to get other cloud native certifications from the CNCF?

Absolutely! While Kubernetes is a core pillar of the cloud-native ecosystem, many other technologies and tools are essential for building scalable, secure, and efficient cloud-native applications. I definitely plan to pursue additional CNCF certifications to further expand my expertise across the broader cloud-native landscape.

What else would you like to share in this feature?

I would love to share how the CNCF community has truly changed my life. Through this incredible network, I’ve had the privilege of connecting with inspiring people from all over the world. It has been an amazing journey—one where I’ve not only grown as a professional but also found a true sense of inclusion and belonging.

What’s been most rewarding is that this growth didn’t happen overnight. It has been a process of continuous learning and giving. For over a decade, I’ve dedicated myself to helping others, sharing knowledge, and contributing to projects and events. I’ve invested time and effort in supporting the community, and today, I’m seeing the rewards of that commitment.

The opportunities to give talks, collaborate with talented professionals, and expand within the cloud-native space have been incredible. But the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is that success comes from planting seeds of generosity and support first. You have to sow before you can harvest, and for me, the CNCF community has been the perfect place where that investment has paid off—both personally and professionally.

I’m deeply grateful for the CNCF community, which has played a pivotal role in my journey. I look forward to continuing to contribute, learn, and grow within this amazing space.
