Presentations
- Containers, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud (GDD Europe ’17) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=mhYJ1AX4dG4)
- In this video, Robert Kubis (https://twitter.com/hostirosti) and Steffen Hanikel (https://twitter.com/SteffenHanikel) work with a simple microservice, containerize it using Docker, and scale it to a cluster of resilient microservices managed by Kubernetes. Along the way, you’ll learn what makes Kubernetes a great system for automating deployment, operations, and scaling of containerized applications. In this session, FlixBus joins us to talk about experiences and best practices adopting and running Kubernetes in production.

- Using Deployments and StatefulSets with Kubernetes and ScaleIO (https://www.topitvideos.com/using-deployments-and-statefulsets-with-kubernetes-and-scaleio-emc/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+topappsvideos+%28Top+Application+Videos%29)
- Created by Kendrick Coleman (https://twitter.com/KendrickColeman) ; The StatefulSet acts as a controller in Kubernetes to deploy applications according to a specified rule set and is tailored towards the use of persistent and stateful applications. However, a Deployment can accomplish the same thing. So what’s stopping you other than the Kubernetes documentation explicitly calling out “If an application doesn’t require any stable identifiers or ordered deployment, deletion, or scaling, you should deploy your application with a controller that provides a set of stateless replicas. Controllers such as Deployment or Replica Set may be better suited to your stateless needs.”
- Containerised Integration with Apache Camel (https://melbkubernetes.org/containerised-integration-with-apache-camel/)
- Claus Ibsen (https://twitter.com/davsclaus) discusses practices how to build distributed and fault tolerant microservices using technologies such as Kubernetes Services, Netflix Hysterix, and Camel EIP patterns for fault tolerance. In the talk you will also hear about related open source projects where you can go explore more such as fabric8, openshift.io, istio, etc. This presentation is a 50/50 mix between slides and demo.
