Software degrades. When we fail to ‘look after’ software systems – open source projects in particular perhaps – they deteriorate in terms of their ability to connect and integrate, to be robust enough to fend off malicious attacks, to align to current device form factors and to provide the core functionality which they were originally designed and developed to deliver.
